Damage: 10% fire damage to kitchen

Believed Cause: Accidental

Initial Information: The call came from the occupier of house stating that a fire had started in her kitchen. She stated that it was a chip pan involved and she was advised to get everyone out of the house and that we were on the way.

Updated Incident Information: On arrival, fire crews confirmed that there was a small fire in the kitchen involving a chip pan, which had been removed and extinguished.

18:33 - The fire has now been completely extinguished and excess materials have been removed from the kitchen area. Crews carried out a Home Fire Safety Check and gave advice to the occupants.

Public Statement Issued: Take care when cooking with hot oil – it sets alight easily. If the oil starts to smoke – it’s too hot. Turn off the heat and leave it to cool.
Use a thermostat controlled electric deep fat fryer. They can’t overheat. If a pan catches fire, turn off the heat if it’s safe to do so. Never throw water over it.
