Damage: Fly tipped waste and field of dry grass destroyed by fire
Believed Cause: Deliberate ignition.
Initial Information: Call received to a fire which had spread to dry grass and was getting out of control. One appliance from Eastern initially mobilised. Once in attendance they requested a further appliance to attend for personnel and water. Upon arrival a field measuring approximately 100 metres x 200 metres was involved in fire, one extended hosereel and 3 beaters were in use. Police were initially requested for traffic management due to smoke affecting nearby roads but were subsequently stood down as fire was extinguished. Crews damping down using 3 hosereel jets and a main jet from a nearby hydrant.
Updated Incident Information: This was 3 separate large piles of fly tipped waste which had been deliberately set on fire by person(s) unknown. This had then spread to a nearby field of dry grass.
Public Statement Issued: Fly tipping is illegal.
Arson is a crime.
