Believed Cause: Accidental

Initial Information: Calls to a house fire were received from neighbours of the property. Initial reports were that the occupants of the house had evacuated.

Updated Incident Information: 08:50 Pan of oil involved in fire, which was out of arrival of fire service. The occupant had attempted to put the oil fire out using a bucket of water. All persons are accounted for and the property is being ventilated naturally. Two smoke detectors have been fitted and the occupier has been given advice.
08:58 Cutting away and removal of damaged items is taking place in the kitchen and the gas and electricity has been isolated.

Public Statement Issued: Take care when cooking with hot oil – it sets alight easily. If the oil starts to smoke – it’s too hot. Turn off the heat and leave it to cool.
Nowadays, using an electric deep fat fryer is much safer as they can’t overheat.
If a pan catches fire, turn off the heat if it’s safe to do so. Never throw water over it!!!
Don’t tackle the fire yourself.
