Damage: 30% fire damage to the kitchen and 50% smoke damage to the whole of the flat

Believed Cause: accidental: gas ring left on and ignited combustible materials close by

Initial Information: A call was received from a member of the public reporting a kitchen fire in a block of flats. The caller could not confirm if anyone was in the flat, therefore 3 fire engines and an officer were sent. The Fire Service carried out a thorough search of the flat and it was confirmed that there was no-one inside. Investigations into the cause of the fire will take place in the morning. Police are preserving the scene.
