Damage: 5 percent to cooker and light smoke damage to the flat

Believed Cause: Accidental

Initial Information: Multiple calls received to a house involved in fire.

Updated Incident Information: One chip pan involved in fire, fire was extinguished prior to fire service arrival. All persons have been accounted for. Positive Pressure Ventilation fan being used for smoke clearance of the flat and corridor area.

Public Statement Issued: Deep Fat Frying
Take care when cooking with hot oil – it sets alight easily. If the oil starts to smoke – it’s too hot. Turn off the heat and leave it to cool.
Use a thermostat controlled electric deep fat fryer. They can’t overheat. If a pan catches fire, turn off the heat if it’s safe to do so. Never throw water over it.
Don’t tackle the fire yourself.
