Damage: 75% severe by fire to forklift truck

Believed Cause: cause is believed to be an electrical fault

Initial Information: Emergency call received to was was thought to be a skip fire outside B&Q on Bull head street, Wigston.

Updated Incident Information: on arrival crews confirmed this was 1 forklift truck involved in fire, crews using 1 hose reel jet, dry powder extinguisher and small gear to deal with the incident.

18:22 informative message - damping down and turning over in progress. crews are checking for any hot spots both internally and externally using a thermal imaging camera.

18:38 -STOP message - 1 hose reel remains in place for damping down, thermal imaging camera still in use. still a lot of heat emulating from battery unit, crews awaiting forklift driver to remove battery compartment and assist with removing forklift involved to a place of safety.

19:07 - forklift driver now in attendance and attempting to remove battery unit from vehicle.

19:40 - battery to forklift has now been isolated, a re-inspection of this incident will be carried out later this evening.

21:23 battery pack weighing approximately one tonne has been moved from the forklift and placed in a central parking area away from any combustible materials. Wigston fire appliance will return at 06:30 to re-inspect.

06:35 following the use of a thermal image camera its is clear that there has been no temperature increase in the product over night. Incident handed over the manager and advice given.
