Damage: 50% to oven by fire, smoke damage to room.

Believed Cause: Accidental due to fat in pan

Initial Information: Chip pan involved in fire in kitchen of property. 2 breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet used.
Ambulance requested to attend due to casualty suffering from smoke inhalation.

Updated Incident Information: Fire in semi detached property now extinguished by the fire service, fire was located on ground floor to the rear of the property. Positive pressure ventilation in use to ventilate property.

Public Statement Issued: Deep Fat Frying
Take care when cooking with hot oil – it sets alight easily. If the oil starts to smoke – it’s too hot. Turn off the heat and leave it to cool.
Use a thermostat controlled electric deep fat fryer. They can’t overheat. If a pan catches fire, turn off the heat if it’s safe to do so. Never throw water over it.
Don’t tackle the fire yourself.
