Damage: trailer and contents destroyed by fire

Believed Cause: accidental : overheated brakes

Initial Information: multiple calls received to a lorry fire located on the hard shoulder

Updated Incident Information: 1 lorry carrying paper involved in fire. Cab has been separated from trailer and cab is clear of the incident. 2 Breathing apparatus under stage 1 entry control procedure. 1 Hose reel jet in use.
assistance message: request the attendance of a water carrier.
this incident involves approximately 25 rolled bales of paper weighing approximately 1 tonne each. incident is located on the hard shoulder and lanes 1 and 2 have been closed. 2 breathing apparatus and 1 hose reel in use.
attendance of recovery is requested to form a plan for off loading. paper needs to be off loaded to be able to extinguish fire.
Damping down is in progress with 1 hose reel jet. Breathing apparatus have currently been withdrawn. Ambulance are in attendance and assessing the driver. Crews will be committed for approx 60 minutes. still awaiting arrival of recovery to discuss the off loading of the paper.
Recovery is now in attendance. 1 hose reel jet in use and water carrier is now supplying the water. ambulance have assessed the driver and no further treatment is being given.

stop message: all paper bales have now been extinguished and are ready for recovery. all remaining bales are to be recovered and transported. incident is now being left with the highways agency
