Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service Supports LeicestershireLive Heroes Awards
At an award ceremony in July, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service will be celebrating the achievements of some remarkable people, who have helped make Leicestershire a better place.
For its fourth year, the LeicestershireLive Heroes awards, a ceremony put on by the Leicester Mercury and Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner, Lord Willy Bach, will take place to recognise the selflessness, bravery and determination of people in Leicestershire.
Supported by a number of local organisations, the ceremony will see awards given out for ten categories, including:
- Armed Services
- Bravery and Courage
- Community Action
- Community Building
- Emergency Services
- Good Neighbour
- Volunteer of the Year
- Young Heroes
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- Hero of Leicestershire 2019
As they have done in previous years, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are proudly sponsoring the Volunteer of the Year category. This award is for an individual who has carried out a multitude of good work, without asking for anything in return.
Paul Weston, Assistant Chief Fire and Rescue Officer for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “It is a great honour to be part of this celebratory event and we are extremely proud to be sponsoring the Volunteer of the Year category again.
“We believe all volunteers should receive the recognition they deserve for their hard work and efforts. They really do make a huge difference to our city and county by devoting hours of their own private time to help others. Whether that be through volunteering for organisations or charities, raising money or working to make our communities better, they all do an excellent job without any benefit to themselves other than self-satisfaction of making a difference.
“Without volunteers, some organisations wouldn’t be able to operate and provide a service to the members of the public that need them, and for that, we really do need to celebrate Leicestershire’s volunteers.
“On behalf of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, we would like to say thank you to all the volunteers out there for their continued hard work. Each and every one of you are heroes.”
LeicestershireLive Heroes 2019 awards ceremony will take place at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday 10 July.

About the Service
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service provides emergency response, prevention and protection services from 20 stations across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Its headquarters is based in Birstall, Leicester.
The Service’s prevention, education, enforcement and inspection programmes have resulted in significant reductions in the number of incidents. In the last ten years, fire-related incidents have reduced by 43 percent.
During 2016/17, the Service attended 694 road traffic collisions, of which 148 were extrications from vehicles, in addition to 2,259 fires. 272 schools were visited as part of the Service’s schools programme, delivering fire and road safety education to pupils. Staff organised or took part in 1,613 community safety events, promoting fire and road safety and arson prevention, and 145 Virtual Fatal Four (VF4) events as part of the Service’s young drivers’ road safety project.
