Firefighters in Leicestershire and Rutland are planning to walk more than 150 miles between all 20 local Fire Stations in memory of a colleague who died earlier this year, and raise thousands of pounds for charity in the process.

Watch Manager Jon Partridge passed away suddenly at the age of 38 following a medical emergency on 24 February 2025. Jon was laid to rest in his hometown of Billesdon, with a full Guard of Honour from his Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service colleagues.

Many of these same colleagues will now walk in full fire kit from Billesdon Fire Station, visiting all 20 Fire Stations in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland over the course of 10 days in October, and covering 254km in the process. The walk will finish at Billesdon Fire Station, where Jon spent much of his career.

They hope to raise £10,000 in his memory, money which will be split between the Fire Fighters Charity and Jon's family.

Billesdon Fire Station Watch Manager David Hurst said: "This walk will be in honour of Jon Partridge, who was a colleague and friend and is dearly missed. We we wanted to do something in his memory, and for his family.

"We've organise several teams of Firefighters to undertake the various stages between all 20 of our fire stations, starting on Thursday 9 October and finishing back here at Billesdon Fire Station on Saturday 18 October."

The route of the walk will be as follows:

• 9 October - Billesdon to Kibworth to Market Harborough Fire Station
• 10 October - Market Harborough to Lutterworth Fire Station
• 11 October - Lutterworth to Hinckley to Market Bosworth Fire Station
• 12 October - Market Bosworth to Coalville to Ashby Fire Station
• 13 October - Ashby to Castle Donnington to Shepshed Fire Station
• 14 October - Shepshed to Loughborough to Birstall to Western Fire Station
• 15 October - Western to Southern to Wigston to Central to Eastern Fire Station
• 16 October - Eastern to Melton Fire Station
• 17 October - Melton to Oakham to Uppingham Fire Station
• 18 October - Uppingham to Billesdon Fire Station
