Wholetime Recruitment Women’s Have A Go Day

Time: Saturday 11 August, 11:00 – 16:00 hours
Location: Birstall Fire and Rescue Station, Leicester

Ahead of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s upcoming recruitment process for Wholetime Firefighters, they are putting on several events to allow those interested in becoming a Wholetime Firefighter a chance to find out more about the role. This includes fitness level requirements and what the job entails, the opportunity to speak with current firefighters and one of their recruitment champions about any further questions you may have.

The first ‘Have A Go’ day is taking place on Saturday 10 August, which is open to women only. They are looking for local media to cover this event to reach as many women in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and encourage them to consider a career with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

Rick Taylor, Chief Fire and Rescue Officer, said: “We all know our workforce is not representative of the multicultural and diverse communities we serve. This is not a criticism of our current workforce, it’s a fact, and we know that every fire and rescue service in the country is in the same position.

“In order to begin to reflect our diverse communities, we will focus our recruitment campaign on encouraging applications from underrepresented groups, including women, black and minority ethnic and our LGBT+ communities.

“This will not preclude applications from white British males. Every applicant that successfully completes the application process will be judged on their merit – there will be no bias in favour of any particular group or individual.”
