The Service believes that gender equality is achieved when women and men enjoy the same rights and opportunities across all sectors of society, including economic participation and decision-making, and when the different behaviours, aspirations and needs of women and men are equally valued and favoured. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is working to ensure that the workplace is an enjoyable environment for all employees and those that come into contact with our services.

Gender and the Workforce

The distribution of female employees at LFRS is 15.7% across the Service, 6.1% in operational roles (including Control). The distribution of women in support staff roles is 61%.

The proportion of women working for LFRS has remained largely static over the last four years. In 2015 women represented 15.6% across the workforce. However in operational roles (including Control staff) there has been an increase from 5.3% in 2015 to 6.1%.
