COMMUNITY STATION OPEN DAYS COMMENCE
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is delighted to announce that during September a number of fire and rescue stations across Leicester and Leicestershire will be holding their Community Station Open Days, and they want to extend an invitation for you to attend. The first two taking place are:
Saturday 2 September, Southern Fire and Rescue Station
Sunday 3 September, Lutterworth Fire and Rescue Station
The Community Station Open Days are a great opportunity for the whole family to enjoy a day out, with lots of activities and attractions, as well as providing an opportunity to learn more about the work your local fire and rescue station is involved in. Firefighters will also be on hand to provide FREE safety advice.
There will be demonstrations of the equipment the Service uses to free people trapped in road traffic collisions and a chance to get a closer look at our fire engines. Our younger visitors can explore our Smoke House, have fun on fairground rides or take part in the games hosted throughout the day. There will also be food and refreshments.
Steve Lunn, Chief Fire and Rescue Officer, said: “Our Community Station Open Days are always a highlight for us, and they give us a unique opportunity to engage with the people we serve in the local communities.”
“At our open days there will be lots for visitors to see and do, with our firefighters on hand to help with the activities and also ensure everyone who attends, leaves feeling they have learnt something valuable from their visit.”
“You won’t get a better chance than this to find out more about what we do so please attend if you can make it.”
“These first two dates will be followed by more days held by other stations, so if you unable to make it this weekend, be sure to check when the other events are taking place.”

About the Service
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service provides emergency response, prevention and protection services from 20 stations across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Its headquarters is based in Birstall, Leicester.
The Service’s prevention, education, enforcement and inspection programmes have resulted in significant reductions in the number of incidents. In the last ten years, fire related incidents have reduced by 46 percent.
During 2015/16, the Service attended 666 road traffic collisions, of which 174 were extrications freeing 208 people trapped inside their vehicles and completed 5086 home fire safety checks, fitting almost 4481 smoke alarms. Staff organised or supported almost 1431 events aimed at promoting fire and road safety and arson prevention, whilst also visiting 332 schools to deliver fire and road safety education to pupils.
