LFRS ARE RECRUITING ON-CALL FIREFIGHTERS
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are excited to announce that we are accepting applications for On-Call firefighter roles from Monday 7 May. We are recruiting On-Call firefighters at:
- Ashby Fire and Rescue Station
- Billesdon Fire and Rescue Station
- Coalville Fire and Rescue Station
- Hinckley Fire and Rescue Station
- Kibworth Fire and Rescue Station
- Lutterworth Fire and Rescue Station
- Market Harborough Fire and Rescue Station
- Oakham Fire and Rescue Station
- Uppingham Fire and Rescue Station
- Wigston Fire and Rescue Station
(Please note that On-Call firefighters must live and/or work within a set travel time from their fire and rescue station. This can be discussed and agreed with the relevant managers for each fire and rescue station).
Our On-Call firefighters play an important role to our operational response. They carry an alerter and respond to emergency calls, where they face all kinds of challenges. This is a paid role. Your pay depends on personal availability and the number of calls you respond to.
The deadline for submitting an application is Monday 4 June, so don’t delay! There are a number of essential requirements you will need to meet in order to be considered for an On-Call firefighter role, and these can be found by visiting our website www.leicestershire-fire.gov.uk/recruitment.
We are holding several Have A Go days over the next few weeks to give an insight into what an On-Call firefighter does and the required strength, fitness and aptitude levels needed. If you are unable to attend these Have A Go days, get in touch with your local On-Call fire and rescue station. You will be able to attend their weekly drill night, where you will find out more about the role and meet your future colleagues.

About the Service
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service provides emergency response, prevention and protection services from 20 stations across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Its headquarters is based in Birstall, Leicester.
The Service’s prevention, education, enforcement and inspection programmes have resulted in significant reductions in the number of incidents. In the last ten years, fire-related incidents have reduced by 43 percent.
During 2016/17, the Service attended 694 road traffic collisions, of which 148 were extrications from vehicles, in addition to 2,259 fires. 272 schools were visited as part of the Service’s schools programme, delivering fire and road safety education to pupils. Staff organised or took part in 1,613 community safety events, promoting fire and road safety and arson prevention, and 145 Virtual Fatal Four (VF4) events as part of the Service’s young drivers’ road safety project.
