On-Call Firefighter Vacancies at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service
The Service is recruiting On-Call firefighters at a number of On-Call stations across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Our professional On-Call firefighters play an important role to operational response, working alongside Wholetime firefighters. Being an On-Call firefighter, you will carry an alerter and respond to emergency calls, where you will face all kinds of challenges within your local community helping to make safer people and safer places.
In order to respond to emergencies within set attendance times, you must live and/or work within a set travel time from the fire and rescue station you serve. (This can be discussed and agreed with the relevant managers for each fire and rescue station).
On-Call firefighters do not work full-time, but are paid to spend some periods of their time available on-call to respond to emergency incidents. Many have full-time jobs, others maybe self-employed or stay at home parents.

Unfortunately, due to the current Coronavirus pandemic and the lock down and social distancing requirements, we cannot offer the taster ‘Have A Go’ day sessions that we would normally run as part of our On-Call firefighter recruitment.
Instead, we will be running a number of online On-Call firefighter recruitment Question and Answer sessions via Zoom. Here you will be able to talk to On-Call staff to find out what it is like to be an On-Call firefighter and get an insight into the recruitment process.

About the Service
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service provides emergency response, prevention and protection services from 20 stations across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Its headquarters is based in Birstall, Leicester.
During 2018/19, the Service attended 762 road traffic collisions, of which 125 were extrications from vehicles, in addition to 2,569 fires. We carried out 6,746 home safety checks and fitted 4,790 smoke alarms. 279 schools were visited as part of the Service’s schools programme, delivering fire and road safety education to pupils. Staff organised or took part in 1,068 community safety events, promoting fire and road safety and arson prevention, and 134 Virtual Fatal Four (VF4) events as part of the Service’s young drivers’ road safety project.
The Service’s prevention, education, enforcement and inspection programmes have resulted in significant reductions in the number of incidents. In the last ten years, fire-related incidents have reduced by over 30 percent.
