His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services

His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) last inspected Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service in May/June 2022.

This is done as part of a national programme to inspect all 45 fire and rescue services in England.

The final report concentrates on three areas:

  • Effectiveness – how effective is our Service at keeping people safe and secure from fire and other risks
  • Efficiency – How efficient is our Service at keeping people safe and secure from fire and other risks
  • People – How well does the Service look after its staff

The HMICFRS award graded judgments for each section, based on the evidence that they find. These categories of judgement are:

  • Outstanding
  • Good
  • Requires Improvement
  • Inadequate

They also carried out a survey on what the public of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland think about our Service and another based on the thoughts of our staff – elements of both are included within the report. The report is available to view by clicking here.

As the above report shows, in the areas of effectiveness and people, HMICFRS graded the Service 'Good' and in the area of efficiency, HMICFRS graded the Service as 'Requires Improvement'.

These areas are broken down into 11 separate parts for which, the Service achieved 'Good' in nine of these. The Service is now in the process of reviewing the report and looking at how they can address areas of improvement that have been identified, in order to continue to provide the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland with the best possible fire service.
