The Mini Fire Engine, which has recently had a mini makeover with a new sound system and led interior lighting, started in 1981 at Wigston Fire and Rescue Station. In its time it has raised over £200,000 for local charities which include:

  • Loros
  • Menphys
  • Heart Link
  • Air Ambulance
  • The Fire Fighters Charity
  • Mablethorpe Children’s Home

The Mini Fire Engine is well known, not only in the Leicestershire but also as far as Krefeld, Germany. Throughout the year, the Mini Fire Engine will go to fire and rescue station open days (not only in Leicestershire), school fetes and any other events they are requested to attend. In 2014, a few firefighters from Wigston Fire and Rescue Station decided to start Santa routes, similar to what Central, Hinckley and Melton Fire and Rescue Stations do. They planned to do three or four very small routes and, in doing so, they managed to raise just over £2,000. Following on from this, in 2015, the team had requests from members of the public to make it happen again. Due to its popularity it was set up in 2015 and this time, a massive £6,000 was raised. On top of the money raised, we also donated sensory equipment to the LRI children’s ward and biscuits to the care homes in the area. The Mini Fire Engine is back on the roads again this 2017, and we have again set ourselves a target. For now we will keep this one quiet but make sure you help us achieve this by visiting us on any of the routes – see the schedule below:
