On Wednesday 13 March 2024 we served a Prohibition Notice on 7 The Coneries, Loughborough. This was due to various breaches of the Fire Safety Order 2005 (as amended). This was due to concerns about the suitability of the building and the time it would take for residents to evacuate in the event of a fire.

Since the Prohibition Notice was served, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has worked with the Responsible Person (Landlord) to ensure the property meets fire safety standards and is safe for residents to return.

On Thursday 11 April 2024 the Prohibition Notice that was in place was removed. This was following remedial works being carried out to reduce the immediate risk to life from fire. A waking watch* has now been put in place by the Responsible Person as a temporary measure whilst works continue to improve compliance with the Fire Safety Order 2005 (as amended).

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service take the safety of all residents seriously and will continue to engage with the landlord of 7 The Coneries, Loughborough to make continuous improvements for the ongoing safety of residents.

*A waking watch is a system whereby suitably trained persons continually patrol the necessary areas of the building and the exterior perimeter in order to detect a fire, raise the alarm, and alert the Fire service. Those same individuals can then carry out the duties that may be required to manage an evacuation if needed.

A waking watch is an immediate solution to reduce the risk in a building and allow for continued occupation where, without them, the risk of fire may lead a Responsible Person to determine occupation is no longer appropriate or lead the Fire Service to serve a Prohibition Notice.
