On Saturday 27 August, 15 new Firefighter recruits from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service will be taking on the Leicestershire Three Peaks challenge, raising funds for charity.
The challenge will involve the recruits attempting to complete a 16-mile hike across the three peaks of Leicestershire, wearing full fire kit.
The recruits are hoping to raise £2,000 for The Fire Fighters Charity, who offer specialist lifelong support for members of the UK fire services community.
Callum Faint, Chief Fire and Rescue Officer, said: “Every year, our new recruits are given a challenge by myself to come up with an event to raise money for charity – ‘The Chief’s Challenge’.
“This year, the Chiefs Challenge will be particularly challenging as the recruits are not only hiking 16 miles across Leicestershire, but they will be in full fire kit whilst doing so. I wish them the best of luck in their challenge.”
They will be meeting at 8am at Bawdon Lodge Farm as a starting point for the 16-mile hike.
The first part of their trek will take them to the top of Beacon Hill, followed by climbing Old John and Bradgate Park.
The third peak to climb will be Bardon Hill.
It will be a full round trip as they finish their walk back at Bawdon Lodge Farm.
Everybody is welcome and encouraged to come and take part along the way and to show your support. Please do so safely and ensure you dress appropriately for the weather.

To raise even more money for the charity, the recruits are running an online raffle, every £5 donation gets you an entry. About the Service
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service provides emergency response, prevention and protection services from 20 stations across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Its headquarters is based in Birstall, Leicester.
During 2019/20, we attended a total of 8,541 emergency incidents, including 2,079 fires and 748 road traffic collisions. A total of 7,274 Home Safety Checks were completed and we fitted 4,720 smoke alarms. 305 schools were visited as part of the Service’s schools programme, delivering fire and road safety education to 26,218 pupils. Staff organised or took part in 1,218 community safety activities, totalling over 11,000 hours of time engaging with members of the public.
The Service’s prevention, education, enforcement and inspection programmes have resulted in significant reductions in the number of incidents. In the last ten years, fire-related incidents have reduced by over 30 percent.
